Villoondi Theertham
The Villondi Theertham: A Sacred Oasis and Symbol of Divine Grace in Rameshwaram:
Although Rameshwaram is well-known for its temple tanks, the Villoondi Theertham is a location of particular significance. According to legend, this was made when Lord Rama threw an arrow into the sea to provide fresh water to satisfy the thirst of his wife Sita. This location, which is roughly 7 miles from the Ramanathaswamy Temple, has some breathtakingly gorgeous and dramatic sea views. The location is called Villondi, which means "buried bow," because it is thought to be where Lord Rama buried his bow and arrow. This holy well is reached by a lengthy platform that is magical to walk on because it offers views of the sea on both sides.
Despite the well's proximity to salty seawater, the water within seems oddly pleasant, and some who are devoted to it think drinking this sacred water will benefit them. Adjacent to this location is a small, temple-like structure where, from the edge of the platform, you can see statues representing gods and goddesses submerged in the sea. Like the building itself, the vista is really amazing.
