Interesting Facts about Rameswaram

Rameswaram is extremely important in the epic Ramayana. It is connected to India's mainland by the well-known Pamban Bridge. The town is located in the Gulf of Mannar, on the extremity of the Indian Peninsula.Rameswaram is the nearest point in India to Sri Lanka via the Bay of Bengal.

According to the Hindu Puranas, sages urged Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshmana to install and worship the lingam, which represents Lord Shiva. They did it to atone for the sin of slaying Ravana, Brahmahatya.

Rameswaram is the location where two Shiva lingas were installed, one of which was placed inside the Ramanathaswamy temple. It is the primary deity. Dhanushkodi is located a few km from Rameswaram. According to mythology, Rama and Vanar Sena erected a stone bridge, the Ram Setu Bridge, to Sri Lanka. It was created to save Sita from Ravana's captivity.
