Sethukarai

Here are some key points about the history and special features of the Sethukarai:

Sethukarai - ( Adi Sethu ):

Sethukarai, also known as the Sethu Coast, is a site of great religious significance. It is thought that Lord Rama built the well-known Rama Sethu bridge here in order to go to Sri Lanka and save Goddess Sita from Ravana's grasp. There are still apparent bridge remnants. Visitors are welcome to take a holy bath at the Adi Sethu.

It is reported that Lord Rama bathed at this location before departing for Sri Lanka. In Sethukarai, a modest shrine devoted to Lord Hanuman is a daily magnet for throngs of pilgrims. The temple is located directly on the beach and is also known as the Sethu Bandhana Anjaneya Temple. About 70 kilometres separate Sethukarai from Rameswaram, and it's a worthwhile trip.
