Jatayu Theertha's Historical Significance and Sacred Traditions:

On the route to Dhanushkodi, 10 kilometers from Rameswaram, is Jadayu Makuda Theertha, also known as Jadayu Theertha.Situated in the center of a centuries-old forest filled with Punpanima and Vilvam trees, Jadamakuta Theertha is a stunning Theertha place.The Shiva temple was constructed here under King Raghunath Sethupati's rule. Since the temple is located in a thick woodland on the left side of the road, not many people visit it.

Famous in the history of the Ramayana is this heavenly Theertha. While staying at Kentamadhana Parvatam, Sri Ramaphiran planned to murder Ravana and save Sitapirati. It is said that Brahmakatti's cleansing of the demons' blood from her braided hair and subsequent bathing in it was the tirtha that caused the dosha to vanish.Since Ramapiran cleaned his Jadamudis, it was given the name Jatayu Theertha. Here, Mahamagam is held once every twelve years. Thousands of people then congregate here.
